We Built a Wall!

By | September 1st, 2017|Categories: Style|

We Like to build stuff for our community to use. This time round it was a bouldering wall on the back of our new Whitechapel location. Although we came across a few complications here and there, this was relatively simple to construct. Job done! Come down for a climb whenever. How do you like that Donald?!

Honesty pot: First charity RNLI

By | August 30th, 2017|Categories: Uncategorized|

The Ministry has an honesty fridge. Admittedly its not the healthiest fridge in the world, however it's there for our members that need that extra sugar boost in the afternoon. We've made it cheaper for our members than if they went to Tesco. We want to help our members save money, its what we do. Like most of our members, we know just how hard starting something from scratch is... [...]

By | August 13th, 2017|Categories: Uncategorized|

The second (third?) of our podcasts, we're still learning the best format / recording method but the content is pretty damn good... This time a big thank you to Christophe Mallet Co-founder of SomewhereElse.co and also David Mantle Co-founder Stashbee. Favourite bits: 1. MVP being something to do with a Visible Panty Line, its good to call out acronyms 2. The Ministry being described as ..."WeWork meets trainspotting" 3. VR [...]

Ministry Podcast: Founders Ramble – beta v1.0

By | July 27th, 2017|Categories: Uncategorized|

So we've joined the podcasting bandwagon, working title "Founders ramble"... the meandering path and adventure of the life of entrepreneurs. So firstly, a massive hats off to Ben (www.sourcedmarket.com) and Andrew (www.fundapps.co) for being the first, amazing, successful and entertaining. Why? 1. We did it as a bit of a learning experience to establish whats good, whats not and how we can be more useful to our community. 2. Most [...]

Ministry socials every month

By | July 24th, 2017|Categories: Uncategorized|

We do monthly socials for members and quarterly dinners/festivals for founders. If we're honest we don't really do many other events at the Ministry, we find that in London there are a lot of startup events happening for you to tap into. We prefer to keep ourselves as lean as possible in order to keep our costs/price as low as possible. Our latest social at our coworking space in London [...]

The Ministry of Startups coworking space in London are hosting an emergency first aid course with St Johns Ambulance on 19th July (9-11am). The Health & Safety Executive require that even a company in a low-risk workplace such as a small office companies should have a first-aid box and a person appointed to take charge of first-aid arrangements. Ministry Whitechapel- we’re oh so close now!

By | July 10th, 2017|Categories: Interior, Makers|

So, we're getting there. After 2 months of solid graft, our Whitechapel space is finding some form. When we find new sites we often have little knowledge of how much work we'll have to do to bring them up to scratch and this particular building was a whole new level! 3 weeks of stripping back and 4 waste truckloads later, we had a shell to start again from. This meant [...]

Why everyone should have an office plant named Gerald

By | May 8th, 2017|Categories: Interior|

The Ministry has a bring your own plant policy. If you rent a desk from us then you must bring a plant and give it a name, it doesn't have to be called "Gerald", but it does have to be real. A recent study in offices in the UK and Netherlands proved that employees are 15% more productive when workspaces are filled with just a few houseplants. The potted greenery encourage [...]

Chairs… sit down and think about it

By | April 9th, 2017|Categories: Interior, Lifestyle|

Back in the early days when we opened our first coworking space in London I couldn't afford to buy chairs for our members, so we had a "bring your own chair" policy... we were lean. Then for a short time we moved on to cheap new chairs, that was a mistake... lesson learned! We now provide chairs, either Humanscale freedom chairs or Orangebox x10s. They're amazing chairs in our opinion, [...]

We’ve got all the swank you need!

By | April 3rd, 2017|Categories: Interior, Lifestyle, Lisbon, Social, Style, Uncategorized|

Some startups believe they need the glamorous office in order to make it big, yet companies like Google, Apple, Walt Disney, HP and Mattel started in sheds and garages. As well as over 50,000 sq/ft of "office" space in London, we now have a "garage" with a view in Lisbon. In the gallery are photos of where many of the biggest companies in the world started.

Sky is the limit…

By | April 2nd, 2017|Categories: Uncategorized|

The Ministry of Startups has purchased a drone for the community, we'll be able to shoot some really highest quality aerial footage possible for you. We had one previously, but one of the startups based at the Ministry crashed it into a lake whilst filming a wakeboard competition. This time we sent Charlie on a drone course to obtain his Civil Aviation Authority licence. Captain Gallienne-Schmidt will be available now [...]

Re-enact James Bond Goldfinger scene with the Ministry laser cutter

By | April 1st, 2017|Categories: Makers|

The Ministry has purchased a laser cutter for our members to use, its 1300 x 900mm. It can however open up a separate door so you can slide in larger pieces and run two separate cutting sessions. Obviously the title of the post shouldn't be taken literally, its a serious bit of kit. You'll probably win a Darwin Award if you treat the kit as a toy (you have been warned!). [...]

“My printer is bigger than yours”

By | April 1st, 2017|Categories: Makers|

At our coworking space in London we have a 60" (152.4cm) printer. It was pretty expensive, nearly as expensive as the bloody laser cutter! we got the next size up to the one shown below. It is definitely worth it as the print quality and size is truly amazing. It requires 8 ink cartridges that cost over £100 each and 4 print heads which are the same again. Plus it [...]

Lisboa- Almada

By | March 23rd, 2017|Categories: Lisbon|

We’re super excited to announce that our Lisbon space is now open and desks are up for grabs, €75 per month. We picked up an old mechanic's workshop on the waterfront in Cacilhas roughly 6 months ago and have been working hard to bring it back to life. It’s not shiny or modern but we love it and the new fibre line we installed means we’re picking up a full [...]

Mañana mañana (MoS hacks)

By | March 22nd, 2017|Categories: Events, Social|

We like to make stuff here at the Ministry, whether it’s something useful, like a Skype booth or less useful, like an axe throwing range... We also love to fix things ourselves so when something breaks, you’ll typically find one or all of us stood around it scratching our heads. We’ll hold our hands up, sometimes the fix is pretty cowboy and we end up having to call someone ‘professional’ [...]

Book club

By | March 21st, 2017|Categories: Events, Social|

Referral rewards

By | February 19th, 2017|Categories: Uncategorized|

As all co-working spaces in London will tell you, filling space isn’t exactly a walk in the park. The market, is now totally saturated. So much so that we’ve, made an active decision not to compete with the riff raff. We don’t do any traditional marketing- who even gets real traction on social media these days?   We'll pay £100 per person if they become a member. Without paying to [...]

By | February 17th, 2017|Categories: Uncategorized|

Pretty straight forward here- winner takes the glory and a little 3D printed trophy we made the other day... Can somebody please beat Ben (the founder). He’s somehow unbeaten and only plays with West Bromwich Albion. We think he's started playing throughout the night to get a heads up on us.

SEO – Masterclasses?

By | February 8th, 2017|Categories: Uncategorized|

We are going on a mini knowledge journey of trying to learn about SEO... Whilst doing so I thought we should collectively help each other. The Aim Essentially the aim for most of us is to try and get on the first page of google search results. Why? When was the last time you used another search engine? ...and secondly I don't know about you but I very rarely click [...]
